In brief
What argan oil contains
A composition dominated by unsaturated fatty acids and natural antioxidants, the source of its reputation.
| Constituent | Approximate portion | Skin and hair benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Oleic acid (omega-9) | ≈ 43–49% | Softens and provides comfort; supports a nourishing feel. |
| Linoleic acid (omega-6) | ≈ 29–36% | Essential fatty acid that helps preserve the hydrolipidic film and suppleness. |
| Palmitic & stearic acids | ≈ 18–22% | Saturated fraction that provides hold and a protective surface effect. |
| Vitamin E (tocopherols) | High content | Natural antioxidant, known to help protect against oxidative stress. |
Indicative values: composition varies depending on origin and extraction. It is one of the vegetable oils richest in tocopherols.

From Argan Tree to Bottle
Artisanal craftsmanship, slow extraction, a precious resource.
The argan tree (Argania spinosa) is a tree that grows almost exclusively in southwestern Morocco, in the Souss region, and in a small area of western Algeria. This forest, the argan forest, has been classified as a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1998 — a model of sustainable agriculture and local development.
The oil is extracted from the kernels located in the heart of the fruit, also called argan. Harvesting them and then cracking them by hand, often in women's cooperatives, requires several hours of work: several tens of kilograms of fruit are needed to obtain a single liter of oil, which explains its rarity. The work of Moroccan chemist Zoubida Charrouf has helped structure these cooperatives and promote more responsible production.
They are then cold-pressed and not roasted: the artisanal production yields a clear, almost odorless oil that preserves all its nutrients.
Cosmetic — unroasted kernels, cold-pressed, clear and almost odorless oil, for face and hair.
Food Grade — roasted kernels, amber color and nutty flavor, for cooking.
Argan Oil for the Face
An evening nourishing ritual for dry to normal skin.
Lighter than you might think, it penetrates without leaving a greasy film. On the face, it provides nourishment, comfort, and radiance to dry, uncomfortable, or mature skin. Combination to oily skin types should use it sparingly.
Applied in the evening to a clean, slightly damp face, it deeply nourishes and helps preserve its suppleness and appearance.
- 2 to 3 drops warmed between palms.
- Gently press onto face and neck, without rubbing.
- In the evening, alone or over serum.
- Also on dry areas: lip contour, elbows, hands.
Argan Oil for Hair
One of its most iconic uses, on lengths and ends.
On the hair fiber, it nourishes dry lengths and ends, tames frizz, and adds shine. Apply without rinsing to dry lengths, or as an oil bath before shampooing.
A few drops are enough: too much oil weighs down the hair. Concentrate the application on the ends, avoiding the roots.
Leave-in — 1 to 2 drops on dry or damp ends.
Oil Bath — on lengths and ends 30 min before shampoo, then gentle wash.

Choosing Your Argan Oil Wisely
Some guidelines for quality oil, living up to its reputation.
Virgin & Cold-Pressed
Look for "virgin" and "first cold-pressed" mentions: a guarantee of an oil that preserves its fatty acids and tocopherols.
Origin & Production
A traceable Moroccan origin and production from cooperatives promote sustainable sourcing; an organic label attests to cultivation without synthetic pesticides.
The Right Price
Manual labor explains a higher price than common oils; a 100% pure and undiluted oil justifies this positioning.

Frequently Asked Questions about Argan Oil
Is argan oil suitable for the face?
Yes, especially for dry to normal skin. Its texture is lighter than you might think and it absorbs well. Very oily skin types should use it sparingly.
Cosmetic or Food Grade Argan?
For the face, unroasted argan is used, which is clearer and odorless. Roasted argan, known as food grade, has a nutty smell.
Can it be used on hair?
Absolutely: this is one of its emblematic uses, on dry lengths and ends, as a leave-in treatment.
What active ingredients can it be combined with?
Prickly pear, jojoba, vitamin E — all synergies for nutrition and comfort.
What are its main benefits?
It is primarily known for nourishing, softening, and providing comfort to both face and hair, while helping to preserve their appearance.
Why is it so precious?
Because its extraction remains largely manual: it takes tens of kilograms of argan tree fruits and long hours of work, often in cooperatives, to obtain one liter of oil. This rarity explains its price.
Does it only grow in Morocco?
The argan tree is specific to southwestern Morocco (Souss region) and a small area in western Algeria. Its natural habitat, the argan forest, is a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
