First and foremost: what "dullness" do you have?

"Radiance" ingredients, without mythology
The radiance category is the loudest in cosmetics: serums, ampoules, masks, oils, exotic plant extracts. None of them erase anything: they act on the appearance of the complexion, and always over time.

Two points are worth clarifying, as they come up in almost all questions we receive.
Regarding L-ascorbic acid. It only properly penetrates the stratum corneum in an acidic environment: Pinnell and his team's work, published in Dermatologic Surgery in 2001, places this threshold below a pH of 3.5 — and observed no further absorption gain beyond approximately 20%. Regarding niacinamide. It is the best-tolerated on the list and the easiest to integrate: it combines without difficulty with an antioxidant serum, contrary to a persistent belief stemming from experiments conducted at temperatures no bathroom reaches. Studies published in 2002 in the British Journal of Dermatology examined it at a concentration of 5% — this is the value found today in most cosmetic formulas targeting a more uniform complexion, and it is sufficient to explain why labels so often display this figure. Choosing your exfoliant: a question of molecule size
The criterion that distinguishes chemical exfoliants is neither brand nor notoriety: it is molar mass. The smaller a molecule, the faster and deeper it penetrates – meaning the stronger its action, and the more likely it is to cause stinging. This single criterion allows for a rational product choice and helps understand why the same percentage behaves completely differently from one molecule to another.

The practical takeaway is simple: if in doubt, move down one notch in the "molar mass" column. An epidermis that tolerates gluconolactone well for a month can switch to mandelic acid; the opposite—starting with glycolic acid and having to stop after ten days—causes you to lose an entire renewal cycle. A word on granular scrubs and brushes: they work very unevenly depending on the pressure applied and can easily irritate already sensitive areas. A gentle exfoliating mask, once a week, achieves the same result with far fewer risks.
Sun protection: quantity changes everything
This is where the biggest discrepancy exists between what people believe they are doing and what they are actually doing. The SPF displayed on a tube—30, 50+—is measured in a laboratory using a standardized method that applies 2 mg per square centimeter of epidermis. This reference density is the one adopted by Commission Recommendation 2006/647/EC on sun protection products. It's not anecdotal: applying half the amount does not halve the protection, but reduces it much more significantly.
Translated into practice, this means approximately 1.2 ml for the face and neck. The simplest way to measure without a scale: draw a continuous line along the entire length of your index finger, then a second one on your middle finger. These two lines represent the dose. Most people trying this for the first time discover they were applying three to four times less.
- The UV index 3 threshold. The universal UV Index, defined by the World Health Organization with WMO, UNEP, and ICNIRP, indicates that protection is recommended from level 3 upwards. In France, this threshold is exceeded for most of the year at midday, even under cloudy skies.
- Reapplication. Every two hours during continuous exposure, and after sweating or swimming. On an office day, a second application before leaving is sufficient in most cases.

Three complete cycles are therefore the honest minimum to judge a routine aimed at skin tone uniformity. Photographing your complexion for meaningful comparison
A randomly taken photo proves nothing, neither one way nor the other: lighting alone can make marks disappear or appear. Five conditions are enough to make your shots comparable, and they cost nothing.
- Same place, same time. Facing a window, without direct sunlight, between 9 AM and 11 AM. Note the room once and for all.
- No flash, no filter. Also disable the phone's automatic beauty mode, which is often active by default on the front camera.
- Bare and dry face. Twenty minutes after cleansing, before any skincare: skin that has just been moisturised shines and systematically appears brighter.
- Three fixed angles. Front, left profile, right profile. Spots on the temple and cheekbone are not visible from the front.
- Four dates, no more. Day 0, Day 30, Day 60, Day 90. Photographing yourself every week only shows noise and is discouraging.

Serum, acid, and new cream launched together: in case of a reaction, you'll never know which to blame. One change at a time, four weeks apart. It's slower on paper, much faster in practice.
Switching to four evenings a week doesn't speed anything up: it weakens the skin barrier, causes redness, and you end up having to stop everything for a month. Two evenings a week is a reasonable ceiling for home use.
What social media calls "glow" often comes down to lighting, satin foundation, or a filter. True radiance gain, however, is subtle and is visible in comparable photos — not in a morning impression.
