In brief
How to use carrot oil on the face
The oily macerate is used like a classic skincare oil: light application, gentle gestures, regularity.
Prepare the skin
On a clean and still slightly damp face, the oil spreads better and less is needed.
Measure correctly
2 to 3 drops of macerate in the palm of your hand are enough, either alone or mixed with your usual cream.
Massage gently
Warm the oil between your palms, then apply with gentle presses, from the center of the face outwards.
Choose the right time
In the evening as a three to four-week radiance treatment, as a one-off mask, or in the morning in very small quantities under day cream.
Macerate, essential oil, extract: the right dosage for each form
Three forms of carrot coexist in skincare, with similar properties but unrelated concentrations.
| Form | Common dosage | Time | Main precaution |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Oily macerate Daucus Carota Sativa Root Extract |
Pure, or diluted to 10-30% in a neutral vegetable oil (jojoba, prickly pear) | Evening; morning in small quantity | Possible orange tint on very fair skin if applied pure |
|
Essential oil carrot seeds |
1% maximum in a carrier oil, never pure | Occasionally, as a short course | Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women and young children |
|
Carrot extract cream, gel, finished product |
Already dosed by the manufacturer | Morning and/or evening depending on the product | Follow the product's usage instructions |
Common usage guidelines for a commercial organic macerate. Before first application, test the product for 48 hours in the crook of your elbow; if in doubt, consult a healthcare professional.

Its carotenoids revive the radiance of the complexion and give it the appearance of a light and natural tan.

Frequently asked questions about using carrot oil
How to use carrot oil on the face?
On clean skin, place 2 to 3 drops of oily macerate in the palm of your hand, alone or mixed with your usual treatment, then gently massage from the center of the face outwards. Evening is the ideal time; in the morning, use a very small amount under your day cream.
Should it be diluted before application?
The macerate can be applied neat to most skin types. For very fair complexions, it is better to dilute it to 10-30% in a neutral vegetable oil to avoid an overly coppery tint. Carrot seed essential oil, however, should never be used neat: a maximum of 1% in a carrier oil. If your skin marks easily, prefer a low-comedogenic base, such as jojoba.
Does it give a tanning effect?
No. Its carotenoids offer a superficial and temporary golden glow — a light and natural tanned appearance, not a tan. It is by no means a substitute for sun protection before sun exposure.
Can it be used in summer, before sun exposure?
Carrot oil macerate is not considered photosensitising and can be used all year round. However, it offers no protection against the sun: prolonged exposure without SPF is still not recommended, for both face and body. For essential oil, seek advice from your pharmacist if pregnant or under medical supervision.
Does carrot stain the skin?
The highly concentrated macerate can give a slight golden "healthy glow" effect, which is temporary and superficial. When properly dosed in skincare, it brightens without permanent colouring — and it does not fade existing dark spots.
What are its radiance benefits?
Rich in carotenoids (beta-carotene), it revives a healthy glow, unifies dull complexions, and, through its antioxidant properties, helps protect the skin from oxidative stress. It's the radiance active ingredient for glowing routines — without claiming to erase wrinkles.
Macerate or extract?
The organic oily macerate nourishes and brightens, ideal for dry skin; the extract is used in lighter radiance serums, depending on the skin's needs.
What to combine it with?
Vitamin C, often chosen to target the appearance of dark spots, and sea buckthorn for radiance; on the vegetable oil side, prickly pear for nourishing dull and tired skin.
