The secret of an extreme molecule

To survive in salt lakes, burning deserts, or hot springs, certain microorganisms produce ectoine: a so-called "compatible" solute that stabilizes their cells where all life seems impossible. In cosmetics, it is obtained through bio-fermentation, a modern and sustainable method, without aggressive extraction or harvesting from nature.

On the skin, this molecule surrounds itself with water molecules and forms a thin hydrated shield around cellular structures. This film helps preserve hydration and support the skin barrier against daily aggressions — cold, wind, pollution, or dry indoor air. This is the main benefit of ectoine for sensitive, dehydrated, or exposed skin.

In what forms can Ectoin be used?

A discreet active ingredient that blends into almost all daily routines.

Ectoin (INCI: Ectoin) can be found in many textures: pure powder for formulators, ready-to-use in solution, serum, or cream. A few drops of serum in the morning, followed by a moisturizing cream, and its gentleness also makes it an ideal active ingredient for the eye contour. Low percentages are sufficient: it is regular use, rather than quantity, that ensures comfort.

Frequently asked questions about cosmetic Ectoin

What is Ectoin?

It is a molecule produced by microorganisms from extreme environments to survive; in cosmetics, it hydrates and helps protect the skin from stress.

For which skin types?

All skin types, and especially sensitive, dehydrated, or exposed skin, benefit from its protective and soothing effect.

Is it natural?

It is obtained by biotechnology from microorganisms, a modern and respectful approach, without aggressive extraction.

What can it be combined with?

Hyaluronic acid and glycerin for hydration, niacinamide for radiance, prickly pear for antioxidant nourishment.

Ectoin or hyaluronic acid: what's the difference?

Hyaluronic acid captures water for a plumping effect; Ectoin forms a shield that helps retain this water and protect cells from stress. The two active ingredients are complementary rather than competing.

Can it be used on the eye contour?

Yes: its gentleness and good tolerance make it a popular active ingredient for this delicate and sensitive area, in a serum or dedicated treatment, morning and evening.
