Ectoine: The Extreme Shield

Originating from microorganisms capable of surviving in the most extreme environments, ectoine is a fascinating biotechnological molecule. In cosmetics, it intensely hydrates and helps protect the skin from stress and aggressions by forming a true water shield around its cells.

To survive in salt lakes, burning deserts, or hot springs, certain microorganisms produce ectoine: a so-called "compatible" solute that stabilizes their cells where all life seems impossible. In cosmetics, it is obtained through bio-fermentation, a modern and sustainable method, without aggressive extraction or harvesting from nature.

On the skin, this molecule surrounds itself with water molecules and forms a thin hydrated shield around cellular structures. This film helps preserve hydration and support the skin barrier against daily aggressions — cold, wind, pollution, or dry indoor air. This is the main benefit of ectoine for sensitive, dehydrated, or exposed skin.

Ectoin (INCI: Ectoin) can be found in many textures: pure powder for formulators, ready-to-use in solution, serum, or cream. A few drops of serum in the morning, followed by a moisturizing cream, and its gentleness also makes it an ideal active ingredient for the eye contour. Low percentages are sufficient: it is regular use, rather than quantity, that ensures comfort.
