In brief
Three forms, three uses
The same flower, three extractions. The choice mainly depends on the desired texture and skin type.
| Form | Extraction method | Texture | Preferred use | Combines with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Macerated oil Flower Oil |
Infusion in vegetable oil, 3 to 6 weeks | Oily, enveloping | Balms, dry skin | Prickly pear |
| Extract Flower Extract |
Aqueous or glycerin base | Fluid, non-greasy | Creams, light serums | Aloe vera |
| Floral water Hydrosol |
Steam distillation | Aqueous, very light | Lotions, mists | Colloidal oatmeal |
NOPAL LIFE tip: the more the skin feels tight, the more you should prioritize macerated oil; the more you seek lightness, the more you should lean towards extract or hydrosol.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is calendula suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, this is one of its most appreciated cosmetic uses. Its gentleness makes it a comforting active ingredient suitable for sensitive, dry or damaged skin.
What is the difference between macerate and essential oil?
Macerate is obtained by infusing flowers in a vegetable oil (3 to 6 weeks): gentle, it is suitable for daily use. Essential oil, much more concentrated, should be used with caution. In comforting cosmetics, macerate and extract are preferred.
Can it be used daily?
Yes, it is well tolerated and can be integrated into a daily routine, morning and/or evening, depending on the formulas and skin type.
Which active ingredients to combine it with?
Colloidal oatmeal (comfort), prickly pear (nutrition), centella asiatica (comfort), aloe vera (hydration). A family of gentle active ingredients that naturally complement each other.
