Complete routine for sensitive skin: less is more

For sensitive skin, a short routine isn't a compromise: it's the method. Fewer steps mean fewer sources of reaction—and, crucially, the ability to identify which one is causing the problem.

Why brevity is a tool

A six-product routine that triggers irritation requires six weeks of successive removal to find the culprit, assuming one has the patience to do so. A three-product routine provides the answer in ten days.

This is the main reason to start with a short routine for this skin type. Products are then added one at a time, with three weeks between each introduction—the time frame that allows one to attribute an effect or a reaction to something specific.

The gentle cleanser, first step

A foam or milk without harsh surfactants, with lukewarm water, once or twice a day. For very reactive skin, water alone in the morning is often enough. Skin that feels tight after rinsing signals a cleanser that is too strong, and no subsequent treatment will completely correct this flaw.

Our gentle aloe vera cleansing foam fulfills this role without stripping, which is the primary condition for this skin type.

Strengthen the skin barrier above all else

Sensitive skin is most often skin whose barrier allows irritating substances to pass through. Repairing it precedes any other ambition: as long as it is permeable, an active ingredient applied to it will cause more redness than it will provide benefit.

Ceramides, panthenol, a simple texture. Three to four weeks are generally sufficient to restore a stable state, and it is then observed that products previously poorly tolerated can be used without difficulty.

The cream, and reading its ingredient list

A short formula, without fragrance, without alcohol at the top of the list. For this skin type, it is almost always the excipient and not the active ingredient that triggers the reaction—so the list matters more than the claim printed on the front.

A closed container, pump or tube, rather than a jar opened with each use. The difference is visible after three months for aqueous formulas intended for fragile skin.

Sun protection, without compromise

It remains the most important step, even for skin that blushes easily. Mineral filters are generally better tolerated than organic filters for this skin type, and a tinted texture conceals the slight white cast they leave.

Our sun protection page provides the doses and SPF levels according to the season, and the tinted SPF30 sunscreen meets these requirements.

Soothe redness and discomfort

A soothing mist during the day, a rich cream in the evening, and above all, the removal of what irritates: hot water, exfoliants, fragrances, layered active ingredients. Removing gives a faster and more lasting result than adding another calming product.

For permanent redness, present without a triggering factor, a cosmetic treatment is not sufficient, and the advice of a healthcare professional is necessary. Delaying it helps no one.

The complete routine, in three products

Gentle cleanser, repairing cream, sun protection. This is sufficient, and it is what is sustainable in the long term. The aloe vera day cream and the Soothing & Barrier Routine cover this set. Our sensitive skin page provides more details.

A skincare routine designed for gentleness

For reactive skin, each added product is a potential source of reaction. Cleansing should remain minimal, the moisturizer should have few ingredients, and everything should be applied with light touches—rubbing is enough to trigger redness for this skin type.

The desired balance is not an addition but a removal. Discover what your skin tolerates by removing one element at a time rather than by layering soothing products: it's slower, and it's the only method that teaches you something.

Ingredients to prioritize

Ceramides, panthenol, beta-glucan, colloidal oatmeal. These are maintenance ingredients, without their own tolerance threshold, which do not require any build-up. Sweet almond or jojoba oil is suitable as a final layer for skin that accepts an emollient.

To avoid initially: fragrances, alcohol at the top of the list, essential oils, and any strong active ingredient as long as the barrier is not stabilized. These are the four most frequent sources of irritation for this skin type.

Sensations of discomfort, and what they signal

A brief stinging sensation when applying a new product can be normal. A sensation that lasts more than a few minutes, heat, or redness that sets in: these are stop signals, not signs of acclimatization.

Pollution, wind, and temperature fluctuations aggravate all of this. A morning cream and a mist during the day help, but reducing exposure matters more than layering products.

Monitoring, over four weeks

Only one change at a time, noted somewhere, with the date. Three weeks of observation before the next. This is a tedious discipline and it is what distinguishes a sensitive skin routine that progresses from a routine that has been going in circles for two years.

A serum can then be added, once the base is stable—but only one, and on skin that has not reacted for a month.
