Combining rosehip oil and peptides: the method

The serum works, the oil seals. Peptides target a precise mechanism; rosehip oil provides fatty acids and seals the routine. Two distinct places, and an order that is non-negotiable.

Key Points

  • Order: peptide serum, then rosehip oil.
  • Quantity: two to three drops of face oil.
  • Time: evening is preferred.
  • Storage: six months after opening for the oil.
  • In the morning: sunscreen.

What Each Brings

Peptides are short chains of amino acids obtained by synthesis. Signal peptides aim to interact with skin cells, with varying data depending on the families.

Rosehip oil is extracted from the seeds of a wild rose, Rosa moschata or Rosa rubiginosa. Rich in linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, this plant oil nourishes and softens the skin.

Rosehip oil also contains carotenoids and a fraction of vitamin A. These compounds are what give it its reputation for marked skin.

The Order, and Why It's Non-Negotiable

Serum first, on clean skin. Rosehip oil next, as the final layer, one minute later.

An oil applied first would form a greasy film that the serum would have to penetrate. It would only partially succeed, and the active ingredient would be largely lost.

This rule applies to all plant oils, not just rosehip oil. From thinnest to thickest, without exception.

Quantities

Two to three drops of rosehip oil for the entire face, warmed between the palms and pressed onto the skin rather than spread.

More does not nourish better: the excess remains on the surface and ends up on the pillow. This oil is used in small doses, and its dry texture penetrates quickly when the quantity is right.

Why at Night

Rosehip oil oxidizes in light, and its amber color slightly tints the complexion. Using it at night avoids both of these drawbacks.

Nothing prevents morning use on very dry skin, in very small quantities and under sunscreen. But evening remains the simplest time.

Storage, a Real Issue

Rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, rosehip oil is fragile. Dark bottle, store in a cool place, maximum six months after opening.

Rancid oil has lost its beneficial fraction and becomes irritating. The smell is enough to tell: it turns pungent, very different from the fresh, vegetal scent of fresh oil.

Buy small volumes. A thirty-milliliter bottle used completely is better than a hundred-milliliter bottle where half oxidizes.

On Marks and Scars

The use of rosehip oil on marks left by old imperfections is well-established. The data remains modest, and it must be said.

What can be honestly stated: this plant oil improves skin suppleness and appearance. A recent scar or a changing mark requires medical advice, not just oil.

On Natural Retinol

It is sometimes said that rosehip oil is a natural retinol, due to its vitamin A content. The comparison is excessive.

The quantities are much lower than those of a cosmetic retinol, and in a different form. Using this oil does not negate the need for a retinoid if a retinoid is what you are looking for.

According to Your Skin

Dry skin: the ideal combination, every evening.

Combination skin: rosehip oil on cheeks only.

Oily skin: serum alone, oil once or twice a week.

Sensitive skin: start with oil alone for two weeks, then add the serum.

On dry and mature skin, rosehip oil can be used every evening: its richness in linoleic acid and omega-6 corresponds to what these skin types no longer produce in sufficient quantities.

On combination skin, reserve it for areas that feel tight rather than the entire face. Using the oil everywhere is like treating a single skin problem as if it were general, and the T-zone doesn't need it.

Choosing Your Products

For the oil, look for Rosa moschata seed oil or Rosa rubiginosa seed oil, cold-pressed, in a dark bottle. An amber to orange color is a good sign: it comes from carotenoids.

For the serum, look for the precise name of the peptides and their position in the list. The generic mention says nothing about the quantity, and presence after preservatives indicates too low a dosage.

What This Routine Does Not Do

It does not exfoliate, does not act on pigment spots, and does not erase established wrinkles. It nourishes and improves the general appearance of the skin.

It does not protect against radiation. Daily sun protection remains essential, and it matters more for marks than any treatment.

An Oil Used for a Long Time

This oil has long been used in South America, where the wild rose from which it comes is cultivated. Its traditional use already focused on marked skin.

Ancient use is not proof, and it must be said. It indicates proven tolerance, not demonstrated efficacy.

On Scars, What Can Be Announced

This oil improves the suppleness and appearance of the skin around old scars. This is what the cosmetic framework allows us to say.

A recent scar, a wound, or a lesion that changes appearance requires medical attention. No plant oil replaces medical advice, and contrary promises should be dismissed.

On Wrinkles

Neither this oil nor a serum makes established wrinkles disappear. Peptides aim for firmness with modest results; the oil improves suppleness and appearance.

For wrinkles, what makes the biggest difference remains daily protection against radiation. No treatment on this page approaches its level of evidence.

Essential Fatty Acids

Some fatty acids are called essential: the body does not produce them and must receive them. Linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid are among them, and this oil is particularly rich in them.

This is what distinguishes it from a neutral fat. Its benefits come from this composition as much as from its surface effect.

Application, in Practice

Daily application is better than generous and irregular application. Two drops every day do more than six drops twice a week.

For the neck and décolleté, the same application with a smaller quantity: the skin there is thinner and does not tolerate excesses well.

Properties of a Plant Oil

A plant oil nourishes, softens, and limits surface loss. Its properties depend on its fatty acid composition, not its price or reputation.

A poorly stored natural oil loses its benefits in a few months. The quality of a product is determined as much in your cupboard as at the time of purchase.

A Useful Clarification

These products are cosmetics and improve the appearance of the skin without treating any condition. A wound, a recent scar, or a lesion that changes appearance requires medical advice.
