A toner with Damask rose water and lactic acid: it hydrates and exfoliates gently in the same step. What a floral water really is. It is the distillate obtained when petals are distilled: essentially water, with a small fraction of aromatic compounds. It brings freshness and a soothing sensation — not a powerful action. Confusing it with rose essential oil, which is infinitely more concentrated, leads to expecting too much of it. Lactic acid, the gentlest of the AHAs. Its molecule is larger than that of glycolic acid, so it penetrates more slowly: less irritation at a comparable concentration. It has one useful particularity here — it is also a humectant, holding water while it exfoliates. That is what makes the pairing coherent. How to use it. After cleansing, on a cotton pad or straight from the hand. Let it absorb before your serum or cream. In the evening, preferably — AHAs increase sensitivity to sunlight. How often. Start every other evening. Exfoliating daily speeds nothing up: it ends up weakening the barrier, and skin becomes reactive to what it used to tolerate. Sun protection the following morning, as after any exfoliation, however gentle. What it does not do. It does not shrink pores — their diameter does not change — but a more even surface makes them less visible.
