Yarrow: Soothing & Balancing
A pollinator-friendly perennial of meadows, yarrow (Achillea millefolium) displays white or pinkish flower heads above finely cut foliage. In cosmetics, its azulene and mild tannins are known to provide a soothed finish and a balanced skin texture. At NOPAL LIFE, this yarrow extract accompanies combination and sensitive skin.

The plant, before the ingredient
Yarrow is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, common in meadows, embankments, and sunny roadsides. On erect stems 30 to 70 cm tall, it bears very finely cut, almost feathery foliage — hence the name "millefeuille" (thousand-leaf), which evokes its thousand small leaves. From June to September, the summer flowering brings together tiny flowers in flat corymbs, most often white, sometimes pinkish; horticultural varieties also offer deep pink, red, and yellow.
Hardy and melliferous, yarrow is readily visited by bees. It roots by short rhizomes, appreciates neutral and well-drained soil, tolerates drought as well as partial shade, and retains semi-evergreen foliage in winter. This robustness makes it a reliable meadow plant, present throughout Europe.
But what interests cosmetics are its flowering tops: harvested at full bloom, these flowers and young leaves are transformed into extract, floral water (hydrosol) or macerate. It is in these forms that yarrow is found in a facial routine, and not as the entire plant from the garden.
In the garden, yarrow is considered an easy plant: it is planted in spring, both in the ground and in pots, in well-drained soil and in the sun, and its maintenance remains minimal. Ornamental varieties of yarrow thrive equally well in beds and borders. This same plant, once its flowering tops have been harvested and processed, becomes the botanical extract that NOPAL LIFE integrates into its formulas — a direct link from meadow to bottle.

A rested complexion
Leaves skin clean, supple, and comfortable, for a unified and rested complexion.
Why yarrow at NOPAL LIFE
Sensitive combination skin faces a dilemma: purifying irritates it, soothing leaves it shiny. Yarrow addresses both needs in one gesture — it calms the skin's appearance and tightens its texture. Combined with prickly pear seed oil, which has a dry touch, it creates a simple and rebalancing routine.
