The cold season is upon us, but it also dries out our skin. Through this Beauty Lab guide, NOPAL LIFE helps you support dehydrated skin through these months with comfort, suppleness, and radiance. Between the cold outside, the wind, and indoor heating, this is one of the periods when the epidermis has the hardest time retaining water — and when the right actions make all the difference.
Why winter dehydrates the skin
First, a clarification: dehydrated skin is not a skin type, but a temporary condition. Dry skin lacks lipids (fats) on an ongoing basis; dehydrated skin lacks water, temporarily. This condition can affect all skin types, including oily skin. The cold season makes it particularly common.
Several factors combine. Cold and wind weaken the surface hydrolipidic film, the barrier that normally helps retain water. Indoors, heating dries the air, accelerating evaporation. Repeated temperature fluctuations — from the freezing street to a warm room — constantly stress the epidermis. And very hot showers and baths, however comforting, further weaken the protective film.
The signs are clear: significant tightness, especially after coming in from the cold or after showering, a dull and greyish complexion, accentuated fine dehydration lines, feelings of discomfort and roughness to the touch. Recognizing these signals means understanding that the skin needs both water and a reinforced comfort barrier.
The morning routine for dehydrated winter skin
The morning focuses on protected comfort. We provide water, but we carefully seal it in to face the cold of the day.
Cleanse without stripping. A gentle cleanser and lukewarm water — never scorching hot — preserve the protective film. Avoid overly harsh foaming cleansers that exacerbate tightness.
Provide water. On slightly damp skin, a humectant serum based on glycerin or hyaluronic acid attracts and retains water in the superficial layers. This is the essential first step, even when you feel like your skin primarily needs "oil."
Seal more richly than in summer. The added water must be protected from evaporation and cold. A more enveloping texture, supplemented by a vegetable oil, forms a comfort layer that helps the skin barrier to be better respected. NOPAL LIFE's Hydration & Comfort collection brings together these treatments designed for the cold season.
Protect from the sun. Even during this period, and particularly at high altitudes or on clear days, UV rays are still present. Sun protection preserves radiance and limits dullness.
